What You Should Know About Partial Hospitalization Program Services

If you have recently been struggling with your mental health, you and your counselor or therapist may feel that you need more help than just a weekly session to get you through the rough time you are having. While there are several options to consider when this is the case, one you may not know much about is partial hospitalization program (PHP) services. Partial hospitalization is a great compromise between being fully hospitalized in an inpatient treatment center and just going to your regular counseling sessions. Get to know more about PHP services. Then, you can decide if PHP services are the right choice for you.

PHP Services Are Essentially Day Treatment

PHP services can essentially be equated to day treatment programs. This means that you will spend the majority of your day in treatment (generally 6 to 8 hours a day). You will get a full day's worth of services and help while you are in PHP services.

Generally, you will be in such a treatment program for a few weeks, sometimes longer depending on your progress and your individual needs. The great thing about PHP services is that you get evenings to yourself and get to sleep at home. It is just like spending a full day at work in that way.

PHP Services Offer Individual and Group Therapy

When you go to PHP, you may assume that you will be in group sessions all day, every day. While there is a full docket of group treatments and therapies offered, you will also get individual therapy and sessions with counselors, social workers, and more.

This means that you get to speak to someone one-on-one regularly while in PHP services. This can help you to thrive in your PHP and gives you the chance to talk things through if you are not as comfortable doing so during group sessions.

PHP Services Include Psychiatric Care

In addition to counseling and therapy, PHP services also include psychiatric care. You will see a psychiatrist regularly while you are in the program and will get the medical support you need while there.

The psychiatrist will change or tweak your medications as needed and then check in with you regularly to see how those changes are going. This can be highly beneficial and can help you to get back on track in addition to the counseling and therapy you receive while in a PHP.

Now that you know some of the facts you should be aware of when it comes to partial hospitalization program services, you can be sure that you get yourself enrolled in a PHP service as soon as possible to help get your mental health back on track.
